DOOM - The Board Game

I picked this up at Gen-Con two years ago. I fucking love this game. I just recently started making my own maps for it and i even got a random map creator off the internet that plays sound effects and shit!!
Does anyone else play it? Does anyone
want
to play it?

I love board games, so I'd be willing to give it a shot. Depending on when you want to try it, I might know 3 or 4 others that might try it too.

I would be down to play that. Based solely off of its appearance, It reminds me of hero quest.
Am I correct in assuming that each player has a secret role like in the Battlestar Gallactica board game? So one player is trying to get the rest killed but figuring that out is a bit of a problem.

oh no, quite the opposite. teamwork is a requisite part of the game. The players have much more to worry about than trying to one-up each other. Not only do you have a small army of demons and zombies converging on your location, but more pop up out of every shadow almost every turn, and there is a time limit, just in case you think sitting in one place is a good tactic.
I won't lie, this game is really difficult for the marines to win, which is why it's called "Doom" and not "Cakewalk". But every time we play, the marine players get better at it, and get a little bit further, and when they do win, the victory is that much sweeter. Plus ive never has as much fun getting my ass munched on by demons.
But if PvP is more your taste, the game has optional Deathmatch and Capture the Flag modes. I haven't tried them out, since the rules for them are in the expansion set.

It sounds a lot like SpaceHulk. At first when you posted this I thought it was another board game called Frag! which was based on Doom. This sounds much more interesting.

Sounds pretty interesting. I like games where players cooperate against a board mechanic. The next time you are gonna play send me a line, I would be interested in getting my face demon stomped.

i may try to get some people together on a sunday. Sometimes our sunday game falls through due to work or general lameness. So i sit alone, in the dark, crying, wishing someone would play Doom with me.

A game you guys may be more familiar with which is very similar to DOOM is Descent. Same designer, same general concept and mechanics.

Is anyone still interested in this, because I bought this a while back along with the expansion, I loved it. It is a bitch for marines though especially if you have stupid marines.

Raven 84 just bought a copy of this a month or so ago. If you lean on him MG, I bet we could work it into the Saturday wargaming schedule. Wanna try for Saturday evening on March 8th?
Everyone who wants to play is invited, of course.

I actually believe there are a max number of players in the board game, 4 players, and I THINK there's also someone running the demons.

Well, we can comfortably seat 5 people, 6 if someone is willing to sit on the floor w/ me (we game on a very large coffee table). Actually getting 6 people to commit to a boardgame, that's the real trick.

I'm genuinely sorry, but I missed seeing this post earlier today. I think it would have been great to have you over.
Maybe I can make it up to you - how about Saturday after next? Raven84 and I (as the Marines) just managed to squeak out a victory over Miniature Geek's Demons not half an hour ago, so everybody is probably down for a rematch. I'll drop you a PM w/ contact information, etc.
Again, I sincerely apologise. I hope we can get you in next game.

christ on a crutch was it a close one...I had medic and scout, so I had ridiculous mobility and could heal us, so in some cases we would just post up in a corner with 2 corridors covered and wait while healing, I punched a demon pig-dog to death and CJ gets what I'd call the Ash Chainsaw Armageddon award. CJ had Tactician and Killing Spree (I think that's what its called) so he'd get 3 attacks a turn normally...move and attack with a ready action from Tactician (ready action would generate a guard/hold option) and if he killed someone (quite common with a shotgun and a chainsaw) he'd get ANOTHER move and ANOTHER attack...he was a frickin Cuisinart food processor making demon steaks. My complaint about the game is not enough damn ammo...we got more fist and chainsaw kills than any other. I believe I get the boxer award for killing that damn watchdog. I also wonder how it'd do with 2 sets of the game...could we get more players with a 2 man demon army team and 6 marines? Is it possible or reasonable.

Sure. I work next Saturday until I run out of patients, so it won't be till 5 or later. I can bring another shmuck to the game, unless he becomes employed, so it can be 4 v DEMON.
